Lemon Drop Cocktail

Elien Lewis
The lemon drop cocktail is a tangy, refreshing drink that combines citrus and vodka. I like to add a little extra lemon flavor by rubbing lemon zest into the sugar to release its oils before rimming the glass.

Ingredients

Sugared Rim

  • 2-3 tablespoons fine sugar
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest finely grated

Cocktail

  • 2 oz vodka
  • 1 oz lemon juice fresh
  • 3/4 oz simple syrup
  • 1/2 oz Triple Sec
  • Ice
  • Lemon slice for garnish

Instructions

  • Rub lemon zest into sugar to release the oils, then rub the rim of a chilled martini glass with a lemon wedge and dip it into the zest-infused sugar.
  • Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and add vodka, lemon juice, and simple syrup.
  • Shake well until chilled.
  • Strain into your prepared glass.
  • Garnish with a lemon twist or wedge.

Notes

  • Always use freshly squeezed lemon juice for the best flavor.
  • Simple syrup is equal parts sugar and water, heated until dissolved, then cooled.
  • The triple sec adds a subtle orange note. If you don't have any, you can leave it out and add a splash more simple syrup instead.
  • For a frozen lemon drop, blend all the cocktail ingredients with a cup of ice instead of shaking.
  • Adjust the simple syrup to taste. Start with 3/4 oz (20 ml) and add more if you prefer a sweeter drink.
  • For an even more lemony version, try my limoncello lemon drop martini.
