White Christmas Margarita: Your New Holiday Favorite

There’s no better way to indulge in the Christmas spirit than with a White Christmas Margarita. This single serve cocktail offers a creamy, fun twist to your favorite holiday cocktails. It’s the perfect holiday cocktail for those who celebrate a summer Christmas but still want the look of snow!

This white Christmas margarita blends the flavors of a traditional margarita with a festive twist. With its creamy coconut margarita base, it adds a splash of tropical snow to any holiday party.

The Christmas ‘snow’ is a coconut rim, and the red and green colors of holly come from pomegranate arils and a mint (or use a sprig of rosemary.)

Ingredients

Now, let’s get into this holiday season cocktail. Here’s what you need. Detailed instructions are provided in the printable recipe card at the bottom of this post.

  • Tequila: The heart of any classic margarita, a good quality silver tequila (blanco tequila), adds the best flavor.
  • Triple sec or similar orange liqueur: An essential orange liqueur that introduces a little bit of citrus sweetness to balance the cocktail. You could also swap this with Grand Marnier or cointreu.
  • Cream of coconut: Adds a creamy texture and coconut flavor. If you don’t have cream of coconut, you can make it yourself with unsweetened coconut milk simmered down with sugar! See this homemade cream of coconut recipe.
  • Fresh lime juice: The tang of fresh lime juice for that flavor punch.
  • Pomegranate seeds: Pomegranate seeds bring a burst of festive color and flavor. Fresh cranberries can be an alternative. 
  • Fresh mint. A sprig of mint adds that festive pop of green.
  • Dessicated coconut: For the rim. This is a finely shredded dried coconut.

Method

  1. Moisten the rim of the glass with a slice of lime and dip into a plate of fine dessicated coconut.
  2. In a cocktail shaker, combine tequila, triple sec, cream of coconut, fresh lime juice and some ice. Shake it up until the mixture is well-chilled.

  1. Fill the coconut-rimmed glass with ice, then strain over the cocktail.
  2. Garnish with a lime wedge, fresh mint, and a few pomegranate seeds.

Variations

  • Holiday Margarita Pitcher: For a holiday Christmas party, scale up this easy white Christmas margarita recipe into a large pitcher.
  • Rosemary sprigs can be used instead of mint.
  • Spiced White Christmas Margarita: Infuse the tequila with cinnamon sticks and star anise for 2-3 days before preparing the cocktail for a spiced twist that complements the holiday season perfectly.
  • Coconut-Lime Sugar Rim: Instead of plain desiccated coconut, mix it with lime zest and granulated sugar to coat the rim for an extra festive and sweet touch.

Ingredients

  • 60 ml / 2 oz silver tequila
  • 45 ml / 1 1/2 oz cream of coconut
  • 30 ml / 1 oz triple sec
  • 20 ml / ¾ oz fresh lime juice
  • Ice

Serving

  • Dessicated coconut for the rim
  • Pomegranate arils
  • Mint leaves or rosemary sprigs

Instructions

  1. Moisten the rim of the glass with a slice of lime and dip into a plate of fine dessicated coconut.
  2. In a cocktail shaker, combine tequila, triple sec, cream of coconut, fresh lime juice and some ice. Shake it up until the mixture is well-chilled.
  3. Fill the coconut-rimmed glass with ice, then strain over the cocktail mixture.
  4. Garnish with a lime wedge, fresh mint, and a few pomegranate seeds.

Notes

Triple sec - This can be substituted with Grand Marnier or Cointreu.

Cream of coconut - This is not the same as coconut cream. Cream of coconut is a thickened, sweetened reduced coconut mixture. You can make your own cream of coconut or buy it from a liquor store.

Decorations - The pomegranate seeds can be subbed with cranberries.

Pitcher - This recipe can be scaled up to make a large pitcher if needed. It will need stirring, as the coconut can seperate from the mixture.
