Inspired by the classic Gin Sour, the Blackcurrant Gin Sour is a perfect summer drink or toasting a special occasion.

The cocktail is the perfect balance of sour and sweet, with plenty of fresh lemon juice to balance the sweetness of the black currant cordial. A little fresh thyme brings another element of flavor.

Ingredients

A classic Gin Sour is a beautiful blend of gin, lemon or lime juice, and simple syrup shaken over ice and strained into a glass. Our Blackcurrant Gin Sour adds a delightful twist to this timeless cocktail by incorporating the deep, fruity flavors of Blackcurrant cordial.

Here is a rundown of what you will need. Find the amounts written in the printable recipe card at the bottom of this post.

  • Good London Dry Gin. This is a high-quality gin that is infused with botanical flavors through re-distillation. The main flavor in this gin comes from juniper, and there are no artifical colors or flavors added.
  • Blackcurrant cordial – This brings sweetness, flavor, and a gorgeous color.
  • Lemon juice or lime. Use fresh juice, not bottled for the best flavor.
  • Egg whites. This gives the drink a layer of foam on top. As they are raw egg whites, it’s best to use pasteurized eggs. If you are allergic to eggs or vegan, this can be swapped for aquafaba.
  • Ice cubes
  • Fresh thyme leaves – Fragrant thyme pairs beautifully with rich blackcurrant.

Method

Fill a martini or coupe glass with ice and set this aside to chill while you make the cocktail.

Combine gin, blackcurrant cordial, lemon juice, and egg whites in a cocktail shaker. Add in fresh thyme leaves and use a cocktail stirrer to muddle the leaves into the liquids.

Add on the lid and shake for 15 seconds. This is called a ‘dry shake,’ which better mixes in the egg white.
