Electric lemonade is a vodka cocktail made with blue Curaçao liqueur, fresh lemon juice, and lemon-lime soda. The Curaçao is what gives it that vivid blue color and adds a mild orange note that works really well with the lemon. It’s a simple drink , just shake vodka, Curaçao, and lemon juice and pour over ice then top with soda. The soda goes in last so it stays fizzy.

Key ingredients and why
- Vodka: The base spirit. A clean neutral vodka works best here, or go for a citrus vodka if you want to double down on the lemon flavor.
- Blue Curaçao liqueur: Where the color and the orange flavor comes from. It works really well alongside the vodka and lemon.
- Fresh lemon juice: The sour element that stops the drink tasting flat and overly sweet.
- Lemon-lime soda: Tops the drink and adds fizz and a little extra citrus sweetness.
Method
- Fill a highball glass with ice.
- Add the vodka, blue Curaçao syrup, and lemon juice to a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake well for about 15 seconds until chilled.
- Strain into the glass over the ice. Top with lemon-lime soda and stir gently. Garnish with a lemon slice.
Tips
- Pour the soda in last. Don’t shake it – add it after straining so it stays fizzy.
- Fresh lemon juice only. Bottled tastes flat and lemon is a big part of this drink.
- For an alcohol-free version, swap the blue Curaçao liqueur for my homemade blue Curaçao syrup and leave out the vodka and top with a little extra lemon-lime soda or soda water instead. It’s essentially a blue lagoon mocktail at that point, which is also on the site.
- Making it for a crowd. Scale up the vodka, Curaçao, and lemon juice and mix in a pitcher. Add the soda just before serving.
- Less sweet. Swap half the lemon-lime soda for half soda water for a drier and less sweet version.
